Carlow Cookery Cooking Classes

Evening Demonstration Clases

Our new schedule offers a wide selection of cooking classes taught by professional instructors and restauranteurs.  The classes take place at the store in our demonstration kitchen.   Participants sit comfortably at the bar that surrounds the kitchen and are provided with the recipes demonstrated in the class.  All food that is prepared is served throughout the evening accompanied by complimentary wine.

Carlow Cookery classes are part learning, part social and all fun.  Students are encouraged to ask uestions on the topic being covered or on food in general.  While our instructors all have different backgrounds and work experiences they all share one common trait - a great knowledge of food.  So whether you're a seasoned cooked or a novice you'll gain from their experience.

Interested in a wide variety of food?  You'll find something to whet your appetite on our current schedule.  We're offering a range of ethnic cuisines, grilling and barbecue, steak and fish cookery, summer hors d'oeuvres and knife skills classes through the spring and summer.

Unless otherwise noted, all evening demonstration classes begin at 7:00pm and last approximately two hours.

Evening Hands-on Clases

Looking to be more involved in the cooking process?  Why not consider one of our hands-on classes.  The class size is smaller so participants can be actively involved in all aspects of the menu.  Our instructors guide you through the recipes and all the equipment is provided.  As the items are prepared the group get to sample the food and ask questions.

Classes begin at 6:30pm and last approximately 2 to 2-1/2 hours.

Wine Classes

Wine & Food

Wine and food each heighten the enjoyment of the other.  While the simplest approach is to enjoy the wine you like with the food you like, you may be looking for more.

Our classes are design to help your delve into the world of wine and food by combining our cooking classes with our wine tastings.  As with all our cooking classes the items are prepared during the class so that participants have an opportunity to ask questions or make comments.  As each dish is prepared it is served to the group paired with the featured wine.

There are a minimum of four wines and four dishes prepared and served in each class.  Our wine expert joins the cooking instructor to answer question about the pairing and to offer insight into the wine maker and grape varietals.  Wine classes begin at 7:00 p.m. and last approximately two hours.

Wine Tastings

If you are interested in learning more about wine, you’ll love Carlow Cookery’s wine classes. In addition to tasting wines from a featured area or varietal, our wine experts will teach you about each wine, it’s charecteristics and how to judge quality.   As you taste each wine you'll be able to ask questions or make comments about the style of the wine.  This interactive session takes place in our casual and comfortable in-store demonstration area.

Food (hors d’oeuvres and light main course) is served during the course of the evening.  Classes begin at 7:00 p.m. and last approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes.

Techniques of Cooking - Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced

For those interested in a more intensive, systematic approach to learning, Carlow Cookery offers Techniques of Cookings series.  The series are five parts, each class building the prior.  You may choose the entire series or individual classes based on your needs or schedule.  The Beginner series is offered in the early part of the new year with the Intermediate and Advanced series to follow in the late Spring and early Fall, respectively.  All the classes are grounded in traditional French techniques with contemporary trends and recipes.

Techniques I - Beginner
Good cooking is built on a foundation of proper technique and an understanding of some basic principles. Each of the five segments focuses on a specific category of food and highlights different cooking methods. The goal of our entire Techniques of Cooking Program is to give participants the confidence to create dishes rather than just follow recipes.

Kids Cooking Classes

The goal of this these hands-on classes is to teach kids fundamental techniques needed to prepare a variety of basic meals. Along the way we stress kitchen safety and the proper use of and care of cooking tools. Each class will begin with instruction on the recipes being prepared included understanding the ingredients, measurements and procedure. Participants then prepare the items listed in each class with the guidance and supervision of instructors. The menus are designed to stress fresh ingredients and kid-friendly flavors. As the class progress the kids get to eat the dishes they prepared and ask questions.
